Giant machines 2017 first mission8/5/2023 ![]() ![]() That being said, if I didn't have kids and I bought this on my own, I would be extremely disappointed. All in all an enjoyable game for younger boys. There is a mini-game built into the driving of several machines that's great to occupy the youngest with while the oldest is actually playing. ![]() The machines are big and you get to walk around them and look at them. Even from my perspective, as a dad playing it with his kids, it's a bunch of fun. They think it's the coolest thing EVER! And you know what? From their perspective, it is. TL DR: This game is great for your kids, but if you don't have kids, don't bother.įirst the good I got this for my boys to play, who are all under the ages of 10. It needed more variety in levels or challenges. It’s not a super realistic simulator in setting or story but tries to be realistic for controls and operation (sort of). Also, operating the crawler is actually pretty cool. Also, the deformation software can use work but is decent. The designers actually knew what they were doing too as you’re expected to know what to do the second time you operate a piece of machinery which implies progress. That being said, it ran fine, looked OK, the machines are actually huge, and the game never crashed or had super weird physics bus. Plus, each machine gets used more than once but you do the same thing in each one so the variety of game play is lacking, which is bad for a game that only has 14 levels. Most of the machines have simple mechanisms and thus, the levels are super simple and kinda just there. The problem is that the gameplay is just kind of boring. ![]() It’s so weird that it has a story at all and the voice acting is actually not horrible. You operate various pieces of machinery to get the space shuttle to launch. Now loading 250 tons (game measurement) of material in almost empty bucket loads of 3-4 tons is a quite tedious job.Īll in all this game feels like a burden and is no fun at all. ![]() The radio offers a wide range of awful music, but hey that's at least realistic.Īnd the worst thing, when you are supposed to load material using an excavator this simply isn't possible because almost all material chunks you take from a pile are simply disappearing through the bucket. Yes that might not exactly be the fault of the game as a gamepad or keyboard/mouse are simply not the optimal devices to control such machines, but there isn't any support for steering wheels and joysticks either. The controls for all the more complex machines are really tiresome. The put-on (unrealistic) puzzles are nothing but a hassle. The German translation is a joke btw, totally unusable. Sounds are mostly crap, for example engine noises are way too weak (missing bass) or hydraulics noises painfully loud with headphones. It wants to be a sim, but apart from the controls it's rather arcady. The only pro in my opinion are the perfectly desigened machines. I cannot recommend this game, no matter at what price. This game is extremely worth it below $20. It is a good time, but keep in mind, it is NOT a AAA title, and can be expected to play like it. While i do say this game is a yes - i was so excited to play giant machines, i loved doing that kind of work in real life - the controls were not perfect, nor intuitive in some cases, in game. My regular xbox one controller will sometimes stop working in the menus and i have to leave my couch to go to the keyboard and fix it with the mouse (even tho i have controller companion). Also modifying the controls does not always work, and general gamepad support is very poor. WHAT? what game on EARTH is the movement stick a controllable sensetivity. If you turn down gamepad sensetivity, it also reduces the sensetivity of the left anolog stick. In the settings, you can't much modify the sensetivity of the controls. There are sometimes texture clips when the side of a mountain flashes in and out of existance.ĭirection arrows/goal directions sometime's dissapear.Īnd in my opinion the worst part about this game is the controls. While everything works well and is mostly a quite enjoyable experience, there are somethings like in any game that don't work - have bugs, etc. It is very annoying, please allow this option to be turned off or use our own music. I like how the terrain deformation works, the speed and weight of the vehicles is felt, and everything sounds decently accurate - EXCEPT the radio. It works well, mostly, and does well on simulating the massive equipment you use, close to feel that you'd get from a real life equivalent. The game is a lot of fun (writing this with an hour of play on my account but have roughly 6 from another account). I am recommending this game BUT, with a few reservations! ![]()
